I mentally use this metaphor quite a lot, especially with my kids...I call it "the lanes of life"

I am in life in my lane and they are in life in their lane.

I can be present and with them, but I cannot drive their car for them.

They have to find their own way with their own insights.  I cannot give them an insight.

...and in those moments I can bring calm and faith rather than the usual intense and frantics from my own lane, it brings them more calm. And that brings them more moments of peace for themselves...creating the space for their own insights.

Harder in a way because finding my calm takes far more restraint than back-seat driving, but gets easier over time. It’s something I’ve had to “remember” many many times because I keep forgetting!!
